Why Register
If you are only READING ads, there is no need to register.
In order to POST an ad, you must register. This allows the
system to manage access for modifying the ads, so that only
you can modify or delete your ad and track how many people
have read your ads. As part of the registration, you also
provide the system with your email address, so that people
can contact you about your ad. Be sure to read about hiding
your email address from users of the system.

How to Register
On the navigation bar at the top of the NuMedia Concepts,
LLC ("NuMedia") Classifieds
screen, click on the button labeled “Register”. This will
take you to the registration page where you enter your email
address, an alias and your password. You are also given the
option to hide your email address. NuMedia highly
recommends that you hide your email address to avoid spam
and other forms of harassment. We will email you a link, to
verify that your email address is functional. BEFORE YOU CAN
LOGIN for the first time, you must open the verification
email NuMedia sent you and click on the URL/link to activate
your account. Then you can login any time without having to
click the link in your email again.

to top]
Why Use an Alias
Just like Superman, NuMedia recommends that you use an alias,
not your real name. This will create another layer of
protection against things like online stalking, identity
theft, spammers and the like. Also, you may find that you
want to post an ad in the personals when you are not quite
“officially available”, or a variety of other reasons.
Aliases can come in handy. You can also change your alias or
use multiple aliases to maintain anonymity. However, doing
so will weaken your effort to build a reliable vendor
rating. Life is full of little trade-offs like this, isn’t
it?

to top]
Why Hide Your eMail Address
If you hide your email address, then people will contact you
through a blind message, meaning that they can send you mail
in response to your ad, but they cannot copy your email
address for future use. There are two reasons to hide your
email address: (1) companies cull email addresses from
across the web so that they can spam you. Unless you want to
be up to your ears in spam, you might want to hide your
email address; (2) Some individuals using Southland.LA’s classified
ads may try to discover your identity, stalk you or
otherwise harass you. It is best to remain anonymous, just
in case.

You’ve Registered, Now What
Once you have registered for the Southland.LA classifieds, we will
send an email to the email address you provided in the
registration form. To activate your registration, you must
open this email and click the link before first attempting
to login. Then you can login and start posting ads
immediately. We use a verification email so that we can
weed-out troublemakers, or at least some of them.

Forgot Your Password?
Don’t panic, breathe deeply and focus. Click on the “Login”
button on the top navigation bar on the home page. Then look
to the right where it says “Forgotten Password?” Simply
enter your email address and we’ll send you a temporary
password. See, no need to panic. You can always change your
password, once you are logged-in, by clicking the “Members –
Control Panel” on the top navigation bar, and then clicking
the “Change Password” on the lower left side of the Members
– Control Panel.
[Back
to top]
Why Log Out?
This is only an issue of security. If you are using a shared
computer, you should definitely log out. But if you are the
only user of the computer and if you aren’t worried about
someone playing a practical joke on you, then you can leave
your system logged-in, even when you shut down the computer.
This way, you don’t have to login each time you visit the
site. But it is an issue of security and your comfort level
with the associated risks and responsibilities.

If you believe that someone will buy the item you listed,

way, the item is no longer visible to the users of
Southland.LA’s

delete the item, then you’ll have to re-enter all of the

it. However, you can reactivate it easily should the deal

Why and How to Use Favorites
The classifieds can get quite large. And sometimes when you
find a real gem you want to keep this in a short list of the
ads that interest you. This is done by adding it to your
favorites list. You use this feature in the same way you
maintain a list of favorite sites in your Internet browser.
To add an ad to your favorites, open the ad and then click
the “Add to Your Favorites” which is located just above the
“More Ads in this Category” option at the bottom of the
page. Then to see the ads in your favorites list, click the
“My Favorites” button on the navigation bar.

How to Contact a Seller
To contact a seller, you must first open the ad. Then under
the “General Details” header there is a field labeled
“Email”, which is directly under the word “Seller”. Follow
the row across from Email. You will either see the user’s
email address, or, if the seller prefers to hide their email
address, you will see the words “Email Seller”. Click on
this and it will open a pop-up window, where you enter your
name, email address and a short message to the seller. When
you have entered this information, click “Contact Seller”
and this information will be emailed to the seller. Then the
seller can contact you directly if they choose to proceed.

How to Rate an Ad
When you open an ad, just below the ad, there are a series
of options for taking action with regard to the open ad. You
can rate the ad, for example, by clicking the option labeled
“Rate this Ad”. This opens a small pop-up window where you
can rate the ad on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the
highest. When you have selected your rating from the drop
down menu, just click the button labeled “Rate this Ad” and
then click the Close Window button, and your rating will be
averaged with the other ratings for the ad.
[Back

How to Rate a Seller
When you open an ad, under “General Details” the first row
is labeled Seller. To the right of this label, is the
seller’s name and the underlined words “Rate [seller’s
name]”. Click these underlined words. This opens a small
pop-up window where you can rate the seller on a scale of
1-10, with 10 being the highest. When you have selected your
rating from the drop down menu, just click the button
labeled “Rate this Seller” and then click the Close Window
button, and your rating will be averaged with the other
ratings for the ad. Be honest and fair, because frequent
sellers need to maintain a high rating, or people will
refuse to buy from them in the future.

to top]
How to Check a Seller’s Rating
When you open an ad, under “General Details” the first row
is labeled Seller. To the right of this label, is the
seller’s name. In the parentheses to the right of the
sellers name is their average ranking—on a scale of 1-10,
with 10 being the highest—and their rank among sellers.

category. The data in this table can be sorted by clicking
the column headers to find the ad, or group of ads, that fit
your requirements.

to top]
How to Tell a Friend About an Ad
When viewing a particular ad, click on the text at the
bottom middle of the page that says “Tell-a-Friend”. This

that points directly to that ad, along with your comments.

How to Print an Ad
While some web pages require that you load a “Printer
Friendly” version of the page before printing, Southland.LA’s
classified ads are already printer friendly. So, once you
open an ad, you can print from the browser, or you can click
the “Print” icon in the lower right hand side below the ad.
Either way, you will print the ad, including any picture
attached to the ad. The printed version will cut-off some of
the function buttons in the upper right hand side of the
screen, but the entire ad will be visible.
[Back

How to View a Larger Image Inside an Ad
Southland.LA’s classifieds will shrink the image uploaded by the
advertiser to fit the allotted space on the screen. If you
would like to see the full-sized version of the image, when

right hand corner of the image.
